Homeless Direct Services

Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

  • Obtaining critical documents for homeless people that have been lost or destroyed – birth certificates, social security cards, and identification cards.  This improves the chances of obtaining work.
  • Bicycles – providing used bicycles for homeless people to travel to and from work.
  • Bus passes – for homeless people who have recurring medical appointments.HP-2014-052
  • Clothing – Donated cloths and shoes are available for both Homeless men and women.
  • Assistance in completing SNAP applications to qualify for food assistance.
  • Assistance in obtaining Veterans benefits.
  • Haircuts – provided by volunteers, allows homeless people to keep up their appearance and prepare for job interviews.
  • Mail Service – Homeless people are able to use our address to receive mail.
  • Medical services – provided in partnership with Halifax Medical Center, a RN is Bragg8present full-time and provides medical services and referrals when necessary.  The services include wound care, treatment of injuries and illnesses and referral for more serious cases.
  • Mental Health Services – in partnership with SMA.
  • Internet access – for job searching
  • Laundry and showers
  • Notary services
  • Prescription assistance – for homeless people unable to purchase prescription medicine.

  • Daily afternoon meal for hungry or homeless people.
  • All meals for residents of the HUM Family Shelter.

 

 


HUM Family Shelter

  • 21 rooms/88 bed spaces.HUM Shelterfam5
  • For families with children.
  • Provides up to three months of shelter for homeless families to get back on their feet.
  • All meals provided.
  • Tutoring provided for children in shelter’s media center.
  • Classes provided to families on finance and family dynamics.
  • Case management and referral to our Rapid Rehousing program.

  • Morning coffee and snack items
  • Transient food packages when available
  • Hygiene Items when available
  • Showers & Laundry M – F mornings
  • Cold Weather Shelter when the temperatures are forecast below 40 degrees.
    Sign up at 2 p.m.(Host sites are area faith groups)
