The Hope Place Family Shelter – Daytona Beach, Florida

Hope Place Family Shelter Room

Your support can make a real difference in people’s lives. The largest, fastest growing group of homeless people are families with children, comprising 40% of the homeless, mostly with single mother heads of household.

One mother who lived in the shelter with her children for several months receiving case management, child care & job search assistance, a safe place to sleep & food to feed her 3 children, said as they transitioned to independent living with a job in hand “I never met the person that sponsored my family, without the person knowing me they helped me.  I hope they will help another family.  They sure helped us.”

HUM Shelter Child at BOH Meal

Three meals a day are provided to shelter guests, a continental type breakfast in the shelter and a hot lunch and supper are served at the Hope Place Cafe.

This is one of 500 families over the past 10 years that moved into a permanent residence after staying at the shelter and getting back on their feet.

Staff is on site 24 x 7 to help guide families to achieve goals, regain self-sufficiency and return to permanent housing.

Common areas make up for the small rooms and provide for social interaction in areas like our play room.

In the evenings family’s often gather in the common area living room to watch TV or play games.

The outdoor play ground may be small but it is a secure, happy place for children to play!

HUM Shelter families heading to Daytona School

Early each morning families gather outside the front of Hope Place as the children head to school so parents can work and save for a better future.

Santa at the Shelter

Yes, Santa does know the address of the shelter and always come bearing gifts and blessings for the children!

Inside the front door, shelter guests who have experienced loss and hard times are reminded of one of the most important things they must remember as the rebuild their lives.

The shelter is available only to families with children. Adults will be drug screened and must commit to ending any substance abuse and must pass a background check for crimes that may affect the safety of the children.
