The "Feed-A-Family Bag Program is at the heart of the HUM mission to serve those at risk by helping to keep them from becoming homeless. The bag pictured above, with its carefully selected contents, is to provide five balanced meals for a family of four. It is given, to those qualified, on a one time a month basis. The contents are printed on the bag for reference. Many of the items are normally received through regular donation programs however, high ticket items such as the canned meats, stews, fruits and cereals are always in short supply and must be purchased by HUM directly.
Volunteer on a “Servant Team” at the “Bridge of Hope” Hot Meal Program
Over 300 homeless and residents of the Star Center are fed hot meals daily at the Homeless Assistance Center located on North Street in Daytona Beach. Currently over 400 volunteers serving on 30 different teams prepare and serve the means under the guidance of HUM staff.
Perhaps you could help form such a team from your church or organization.
Join in the Gleaning and Food Drive Team Program
The cornerstone of the HUM mission is foodstuff. Gleaning from stores and markets plus organized food drives provides the financial leverage to deliver the food at great savings. This releases fund for other critical prevention services such as emergency rental and utility assistance.
Personal and group donations are multiplied many times over so make a significant difference. A personal donation of $100 will allow HUM to complete and deliver 40 “Feed-a-Family Bags” or 200 hot meals!
We assist families with over 12,000 bags per year and over 500 families with rent and jointly assistance.
